L’Incoronazione di Poppea
A tribute to love and betrayal
Only three works remain from Monteverdi's long career in opera. L'Incoronazione di Poppea is the last one, created in Venice in 1642. This opera brings us to the conquest of power by Nero’s mistress, Poppea, who foregoes no crime to reach her ends.
Anne-Catherine Gillet and her crystalline tone that belied the malice behind it, is one among a perfect cast directed by Stephen Langridge and conducted by Christophe Rousset, master of Monterverdi’s music.
